Jesus, Savior Of The World. As the shepherds make a profound announcement, guest contributor Pastor Paul Boakye-Dattey beautifully breaks down this narrative. In this third week, we continue our Advent devotional series from the book of Luke. Advent means “coming,” and we are taking time to reflect on the birth, and second coming of our Lord Jesus in this Christmas season, and its significance to each one of us.
11 “Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger. 13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14 ‘Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.’”
The angel’s announcement to the shepherds is one of the most profound moments in history. With these words, the world learned that the long-awaited Savior, the Messiah, had arrived—not in power or splendor, but in humility. Born in a stable and laid in a manger, Jesus came not to rule by force, but to rescue humanity from sin and restore us to God.
Luke 2:11 declares three powerful truths about Jesus:
1. He is Savior
Jesus came to save us from our sins (Matthew 1:21). His birth signaled the beginning of God’s redemptive plan unfolding on earth. Through His life, death, and resurrection, Jesus offers forgiveness and reconciliation to all who believe in Him.
2. He is the Messiah
The promised One foretold by the prophets, Jesus is the fulfillment of God’s covenant with His people. He is the King who reigns with justice and righteousness, bringing hope to a broken world.
3. He is Lord
As Lord, Jesus is sovereign over all creation. Yet He humbled Himself to take on human flesh, entering our world to identify with our struggles and lead us to eternal life.
The angelic chorus in Luke 2:14 proclaims the purpose of Jesus’ coming: to bring glory to God and peace to humanity. This peace is not merely the absence of conflict but the restoration of wholeness and harmony between God and His creation.
1. Receive Jesus as Savior
Have you embraced Jesus as the Savior of your life? Acknowledge your need for His grace and trust in His sacrifice for your sins.
2. Proclaim Jesus as Messiah
Share the good news of His coming with others. Just as the shepherds told everyone what they had seen and heard, we are called to spread the message of hope and salvation.
3. Submit to Jesus as Lord
Surrender every area of your life to Him. Let His rule shape your decisions, actions, and attitudes.
Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus, the Savior of the world, to redeem and restore us. Help us to live in the light of His salvation, proclaim His glory, and walk in His peace. May our lives reflect Your grace and bring honor to Your name. Amen.
The Savior’s birth is a reminder that God’s love is personal, His promises are faithful, and His peace is available to all who seek Him. Today, rejoice in the good news: Jesus is here, and He is the Savior of the world!
