Christmas Advent Devotional | Day 14

Advent – Day 14

You are Royalty. Following up from yesterday’s timely insights on the gift of stewardship, guest contributor Mr. Nelson Okata delves into the fact  that we are royalty by virtue of Christ’s birth. We continue our Advent devotional series from the book of Luke. Advent means “coming,” and we are taking time to reflect on the birth, and second coming of our Lord Jesus in this Christmas season, and its significance to each one of us.

Scripture Reading: Luke 2: 4-7

4 Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed [a]wife, who was with child. So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

 Devotional Thoughts

Joseph, the earthly father of Jesus is noted in this scripture to be of the lineage of David. He was of a royal ancestral line, being a descendant of King David. If we could regulate or determine which family, nation or destiny we wish to be born into before God the father sent us to earth, most of us would not belong to the backgrounds we find ourselves in. We would most likely choose royalty, riches, presidency or some form of influential backgrounds.

The truth however is that you are royalty in Christ. The word of God declares over us: But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light: which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy (1 Peter 2.9).

Jesus was born into both a physical and spiritual lineage of royalty. His outward manifestation was however a lowly manger, in a place where room was not even made for Him. All this did not change the seed of royalty in Him. He lived as a king without a visible crown or throne, and yet commanded more authority and respect than all the leaders of His time and beyond. Likewise, where you were born, how you were born and to whom you were born doesn’t change the seed of royalty in you as one who is in Christ. That seed of royalty in you is what makes you triumphant, it is what gives you authority over situations as you pray and it is what grants you power when you say the name of Jesus. And neither your past, nor your trials, nor your family name can negate the royal seed operating in you.

Christ – The King of Kings

In the book of Revelations, Jesus is described as the triumphant king, wearing many crowns, seated on His White Horse with the armies of heaven following Him. Out of His mouth is a sharp sword and his name is called the Word of God. This unveiled destiny was revealed at His crucifixion when the title “King of the Jews” was written on his cross. He is known as the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, seated on the right hand of the Father. He conquered death, resurrected from the grave and reigns victoriously. His kingdom has no end!

May this Christmas season cause you to experience a refreshing in your spirit. No  matter your past or background, you are who God says you are, and he says You are Royalty!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for choosing me as your own, calling me by my name and conferring royalty over me. Help me to keep my mind on your plans for me, and to leave the past behind. May my life bring glory to you in all that I do. Amen.
